What Does Human Rights Mean to You?
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Dear all,

What Does Human Rights Mean to You?

Today marks the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Share with the world your thoughts on what Human Rights mean to you. Share with us your personal expressions, opinions, stories and experiences of what human rights are or should be in your views, and especially in (post)conflict African countries such as Somalia.

Respect for human rights and human dignity "is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world", says the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in English and you can find here http://www.unhchr.ch/udhr/lang/som.htm the Somali version.

Please take a moment to study these documents as an honour to this important day.

Thanks, Sahro Ahmed-Koshin

What Human Rights Means To Me!
First of all,we will try to define what Rights Of Individuals meant, and how such rights are Obtained, lets use our various Family set ups,as basis for analysis, then go on from there,at home, our parents work, earn and send us to school,so we could be able to live good lives, but while doing all these, they expected us to behave in certain ways,so that we exhibit habits of well brought up kids, when we are looked upon outside our homes,so while growing also,we have responsibilities, when growing and mixing up,with other kids,we develop habits, other than that thought at Home, either good or bad,our parents always mount parental surveilance on us,and make sure we grow up good, but some of us,werent brought up,by our parents,so here there is a Difference, either we are Abused, and our Basic Rights to Education,Clothing,Health Care,Shelter Are Not Always Guaranteed,And Our Self Esteem,is Blurred,Our Human Dignity,Taken Away From Us,This Happens In Family Set Ups,So The Abuse Of Individual Human Rights,And Values,Starts From Home,And Then To The Greater Society,Taking Away Of Someones Human Rights And Demeaning Of Our Right To Human Dignity,Starts From The Mind,It Happens In The Case Of The Wider World,Through Political Leaders,Either Appointed Or Se-ELected,Human Greed Creeps In,And The Mind Twisted To Manipulate Values,That Werent Of GOD,Laws Are Made,And InSome Cases,Applying The Principle Of Might Is Right,Using Instruments Of power To Deny Certain Sections Of The Society,Their Rights,Based On Religion,Caste,Race And Greed,Not On Any justifiaable Reason,That Will Stand Common Logic,So It All Boils Down To Human Greed,Where We Always Want Advantage Over Others,Deserved,Merited Or Not,So If We Could Do Away With All These,Human Rights Must Have Defined Itself,In Its Pure Form,How GOD Created Humanity,Where Every One Have Equal Access To Affordable ,Available Education,Job,Respect To Life,Healthcare,Shelter,Clothing And Other Basic Things Of Life,Without Being Abused,Or Turned To Slaves To Make Our Living,And Where Warlords,Make And Unmake laws,To Manipulate Others Through The use Of Force,For Their Own Advantage!
